Welcome to Marketing Talk's September newsletter

Escaping is on my mind right now ...

I'm planning 2 escapes away.  I'll be walking a third of the Cape-To-Cape Walk in our southwest next week and another break with friends in Dunsborough in October.  That's escaping for two different reasons, so have you thought about escaping your business?  And if this has given you fleeting thoughts about selling your business ...  then here are two things you can protect to onsell as tangible assets.  Your BRAND and your DATABASE.

Your brand is your  ...

1.   Commitment to your customer
2.   What your customer can expect from your products/services
3.   Why you are different from your competitors
4.   How people perceive you
5.   Your guarantees benefits and features

It is everything written, visible, the culture, your advertising and communication styles.  Think about how the phone is answered, what your team say, your packaging, how your ads and promotional materials present and the integration of your website, customer service and social media.

These are just a few things to get you thinking about brand consistency for your business.  Brand building, brand strategy and brand equity are important and considered a tangible asset when selling your business.

Your database  ...

1.   Is not a shoe box full of business cards
2.   At a minimum create an Excel record of your customers, suppliers, prospects etc
3.   With permission, respectfully send your database tips, offers, news, stock alerts, eblasts etc
4.   Actively build your database so that it forms a strong asset for your business
5.   Keep in touch to keep your business top of mind - enough to show you value the continuing relationship

A database is one of the best assets for real growth and untapped profits.  Remember that you cannot spam email, you must have secured permission first to make contact.
Your brand ...  and ...  your database double as marketing tools ...  and tangible assets if you plan to sell your business.

So make them work for you.
